Apparently the man who had been so kind to find them a guild hall did not mention the large and extremely annoying landlord. Of course, if the irony wasn't so great he would have laughed. Jayel always joked about having a guild hall with a landlord, and according to her the landlord would "have a beer belly, be short, and have an extremely meaty face that got red when he got angry or upset. Then he'd shake his head back and forth and he would look like one of those small dogs with the large heads that are the ugliest things ever". Somehow, that's the type of landlord they got.
After five minutes of conversing with the man, he got upset and his face was almost the color of horrid red wine after ten minutes. Apparently the landlord didn't like all the weapons hanging on the walls for decoration. During the whole show, Aculli had begun leaning back, away from the man who was looking up and unintentionally spitting at him whenever he talked. To keep himself from punching the man, Aculli had to cross his arms over his chest.
It was mostly a one sided conversation: the landlord spent most of the time ranting and raving about how it was a building they were inhabiting and not a barracks. Aculli politely nodded along, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at the man he towered over. It was a good thing that he had finished what he was doing before -- namely telling places of interest that the Thorns were accepting jobs and looking for people -- before being confronted by the landlord, since Aculli doubted he would be able to excuse himself until the landlord fell over, unconscious, because of his barking or until someone, literally, dragged Aculli away with a more pressing matter.
He hoped that would be soon.
