Elves: They're not always beautiful, not they do tend to have fair features; having delicate bodies (or, at least they appear to be delicate), and sharp facial features: their noses are usually on the smaller side, and their eyes tend to be slanted slightly.Their lips are usually full, though it isn't uncommon to see an elf with thin lips. They have a full range of other physical attributes, and are considered the most diverse full blood race; however, all elves have slightly pointed ears (though they appear to be normal in every way but that). Elves are immortal in the sense that they cannot die of age unless they wish it, but they can die of illness or wounds; however, no matter their age, they can appear to be as young or old as they wish to, most having at least that much magic in their blood.
Dwarves: The only true short race, dwarves are usually under four feet tall, though the tallest was recorded at four foot seven. They have stocky figures, and many joke about them being built like mountains, much to the pleasure of the dwarf seeing as that would be a compliment. Most have extremely pale skin and dark hair and eyes along with wide facial features. They are not immortal like elves, though most do have long lives.
Humans: The young race. Very much like elves in physical traits, though they are not as fair. Most humans have wider shoulders than elves, as well as slightly taller figures. They have a rather diverse range of features, though most do tend to have rounder faces, smaller eyes and thinner lips.
Fey: The Fey are the rarest race out of all. They value their privacy, and to see even a single fairy is considered to be a blessing. They are much like elves, only smaller, usually somewhere in the four foot five to five foot range, and their ears are more drastically pointed and longer, so they are rather obvious. They keep to themselves and not much is known about them. However, it is known that most Fey are waiting to complete whatever plan their ancestors had in the First Age. Some Fey are friendly, but most are not.
Mixlings: Since falling in love with a member of another race is a taboo, the Mixlings moved away, found their own lands and settled. They usually don't leave their land, seeing as they are treated horribly by the rest of society. Mixlings are a mix of races, mostly humans and elves, though there are a few out there with dwarf and fey blood in them. They know quiet a few languages (seeing how their language is a mix of ancient elvish and ancient dwarvish).

Other races are allowed and welcome as long as you put proper restrictions on them. These are only the most common of the races.

Languages
Ancient elvish, which is only spoken by the elves (and Mixlings, but they don't use it often)
Modern elvish
Mixling (only known by Mixlings; a mix of ancient elvish and ancient dwarvish)
Ancient dwarvish
Modern dwarvish, which was adopted by humans and the other races as a common language meant for trade

Modern dwarvish is the language we will be using in role-play terms, however you can make references to your character knowing other languages or cursing in other languages. However, you can't make up words from any language; you cannot create pet names, curses, or other words in any of these languages.

Religion
All the races believe that the universe and the land was created by two gods and two goddesses. Each race directs their prayers to all these gods, but usually there is one that they are fond of and worship above all the rest.

Rai: The god of the dead, death, evil, darkness, and sin. His symbol is the Bone dragon. He also wears a necklace with a orb in the middle, the orb is said to have all the souls of everyone (including animals) that have died in the past. He was said to have created the Fey, and many also believe he created the creatures that live in the Blightlands. No one is sure what any of the Gods look like, but according to myths, Rai has been described to look like a tall man with a lean build, dark hair and dark eyes.
Nagasti: The goddess of nature, mothers, life, and kindness. Her symbol is the Earth dragon. It was said she created the elves and put life into their silver trees and white horses, giving all three an almost unnatural aura of light. She has been described as having very long, light hair with a delicate body and green eyes.
Haggen: The god of bravery, war, and battle. His symbol is the fire dragon. He created the dwarves and gave them their bravery and strength. Haggen has been described as being the shortest of the Gods, but muscular, dark haired and in a full suit of armor.
Narisi: The goddess of love, family, and marriage. Her symbol is the white dragon. She created humans, though many also blame her for how easy humans are able to be manipulated by others using the ones they love. The plains of Narsil are named after her. She had been described as the youngest-looking of the Gods, looking about in her mid twenties according to some myths, with light hair and brown eyes.

Society and Taboos
Society allows other races to interact, but not to fall in love and try to breed with a member of another race. Bloodlines are important to all, and the purer the bloodline the better. Thus classes were established and most don't associate outside their classes, especially in elvish culture. While society does not allow the blending of races, it is socially acceptable to be gay, to put it simply. Dwarves are less open to the idea, but all races allow it.
Most elves are rather well off, since most come from old families, but some have found ruin along the years; most of these elves left their land of origin to live with another race, hoping to find good work. Elves also have the richest collection of written works and lore, and have the most knowledge (and weapons) from earlier ages.
Dwarves are a building race. Anything they can build with makes them happy, whether it be stone, wood, blocks, or paper. They live to solve challenges (though they will grudgingly admit that elves are far better at solving problems than they are). Most dwarvish cities are carved into mountains or hidden underground, seeing as it allows them to challenge themselves to build said cities. They don't like change much, preferring to stick with their older ways.
Human behavior and traits tend to vary with what class they fall into. The working classes, or lower classes, usually do whatever work they can find: many men are forced to chop wood or fix homes for low wages, and a lot of women have to resort to farming food or going into rather immodest forms of work. In the middle class most women stay to take care of their family and do whatever they can, whether that be making clothing or growing food (with the extras to go to a market to sell), and men having an assortment of jobs. The high class usually makes these jobs or owns the companies that makes these jobs.
Going off to become adventurers is looked highly upon, seeing as adventurers often uncover artifacts and get rid of bandits. Going into most guilds is also looked highly upon. Cities and races have guards to keep out unsavory creatures (not people unless the people do something). These guards are organized by a Guard Captain who answers to a mayor or person in charge. There, however, are bands of warriors and adventurers that roam around. The most known is a band of traveling warriors that go around called the Thorn Warriors. Their leader is referred to as the King of Thorns; all other members are just called Warriors of the Thorn. They go around protecting people, though there are rumors (mostly true) that you can hire the Thorn Warriors into doing jobs, such as protecting cargo.
Guilds and groups of adventurers/warriors are common and can be formed by any member with admin permission. PM Jig or I with any information you have on your guild or band, and we will give you permission if we think you have a good idea.

After they left, Mixlings found their own land in the eastern parts of Ellar, climbing over a mountain range to do so. They settled in one group, and instead of many of their former habits, made grass and wood homes. They're a very open people, making decisions as a group.
A common practice is painting themselves and their horses. They only paint themselves in group events, usually formal events. However, their horses always remain painted. Each member get a different set of markings so they can tell each other apart. The paint, however, does something to a horse's fur, and in the areas the horse has been painted the horse's fur looks dull and dead.
The rest of their practices and views are the ones of their former societies.

Soul Dragons
Ellar isn't known for their dragons, but dragons do exist. Many believe they live on the three unexplored islands off of the land's coast, though some say a few are born from the land every age.
To be connected with a dragon is rarer than the dragons themselves. Most don't live to see a dragon, much less have one pick them to be their guardian of sorts. If one does have a dragon choose them, it is referred to as their Soul Dragon, and the type of dragon usually says something about the person.

The different breeds of dragons are:
Bone Dragon: Looks like a dragon skeleton. Very rare, but often are the soul dragon of people who are evil or cruel minded. Rai's soul dragon is a bone dragon as well. Rumored to have risen from the graves of dead dragons.

Earth Dragon: Looks like solid mossy rock that is shaped like a dragon. Very rare, but often the soul dragon of kind, down to earth people. Also is the soul dragon and symbol of the god Nagasti.

Fire Dragon: A bright red dragon with a fire mane and tail. Very rare, but often the soul dragon of brave, strong people. Also is the soul dragon and symbol of the god Haggen.

White Dragon: A pure white or whitish-blue dragon. Very rare, but often the soul dragon of those who have a lot of love. People who have a white dragon as their soul dragon have been known not to have found their dragon till after they were married. Also is the soul dragon and symbol of the god Narisi.

Black dragon: A completely black or dark gray dragon. Often the soul dragon of stealthy, lethal people who are both charming and cunning.

Red Dragon: A dark or light red dragon. Often the soul dragon of brave, modest people.

Water dragon: A blue, long, serpent-like dragon that can swim and breathes water, not fire as their attack. Live mainly in the water but also can go on land. Often are the soul dragon of pirates, fishermen, and ship captains who are also headstrong and fearless.

Ice Dragon: A light blue, whitish blue, or blueish gray dragon that looks like it was carved from ice. Breathes ice as it’s attack. Often is the soul dragon of cold hearted, cunning people.

Magic/Magic Rules
There are two types of magics in Ellar, one called Magic of Pasts and the other Magic of Runes.

Lore Magic is magic from earlier ages, usually aided by some kind of ancient weapon. The magic from the weapon taps into the magic of the user to accomplish tasks, though the type of weapon used dictates the type of magic. Most who use Lore Magic have several old weapons so they can tap into several kinds of older skills.
Common Lore Magic skills are to talk to specific types of animals, usually ones with a specific type of intelligence or that had some connection to earlier Lore Mages. Lore Mages are also known for the ability to temporarily call upon spirits to aid them in banishing foes. There are also a few Lore Magic skills that deal with fire and air.
Lore Magic is harmful to the ancient weapon, seeing as taking the magic from the weapon can weapon the metal or wood it is made of. Lore Mages also cannot use magic if they have no energy or are running low on energy, since they need quite a bit to control and direct the ancient magic. If one tries to cast a spell and does not have the energy, they cannot stop the spell from happening, and it still takes their energy, which would end in the death of the mage.

Rune Magic relies on two kinds of runes, both developed by ancient elves. Destruction runes are meant to harm, and healing runes are meant to heal. Rune Mages have access to both, though most cannot transfer from destruction to healing without a pause.
The magic works when an individual with a lot of magic in them draws a rune on a specific type of rock, called a Rune Rock. The rune is drawn by them, usually with a thumb or other finger, seeing as once a spell is done the rock clears itself again. Destruction runes are always red, and are different for every individual using them; healing runes are green and, again, are different for every individual.
Rune Magic cannot be used by everyone or almost everyone, like Lore Magic. To use Rune Magic one needs to be born with the ability and the type of magic needed. And even then, not every Rune Mage can use both Healing and Destruction magic; some can only use one or the other.
Healing is a common skill in Rune Magic, though no one is exactly sure how the healing works. Destruction magic often uses lightning or fire, but some types of Destruction magic uses cold.
Rune Mages sometimes get included in their spells, seeing as they have to be holding onto the Rune Rock for it to work properly, and are often close to the person or thing they are using the magic on. There have been cases of Rune Mages getting shocked or burned by their own spells, and are cautioned to be careful.

Character Belongings: Depending on your character's race and class, you can start out with several belongings. However, most things such as horses and houses cannot be bought until later in your role-playing career, except for the upper class who can start out with a home.
Elves and Mixlings of any class can start with a horse. The elven horses are usually always white and have a slight glowing property, just like everything in Illden. Mixling culture deals a lot with horses, so most keep theirs even if they leave their people.
Any other belongings your character has are up to you. As long as it is reasonable or there is a good reason to how your character acquired the item, then you can have the item.
