Aculli Avalen
Name:
Aculli Avalen
Nicknames/Titles:
His sister would call him Acu, just to get on his nerves.
His only title is King of Thorns.
Age:
372; he appears to be in his mid twenties.
Gender:
Male
Sexual Orientation:
He's never really put much thought into it, but if asked he'd say he was straight.
Occupation:
Adventurer, and leader of the Thorn Warriors.
Class:
Upper class, in all technicalities.
Marital Status:
Single.
Belongings:
His white elven horse and whatever he can load on her. This is usually only a badly patched tent, some food, a few spears and javelins (though he keeps his best spear and javelins on a type of harness on his back) a shield or two (usually with the best strapped onto his left arm). He goes through armor pretty quickly, but he tries to keep an extra set in case he needs it, as well as clothing and medical supplies (which usually only consists of a bandage or two, something his sister would always tease him about).
Physical Description:
Aculli has a very typical "male" figure; he has broader shoulders than most elves and has a smaller waist. Also unlike most elves he has obvious muscle in his arms and legs from his combat style.
He has a strong jaw, a small, upturned nose and extremely prominent cheekbones, which make his brown eyes look like they're a bit more slanted than they really are. He has a good complexion but he does have a few scars, the most noticeable being the one on his right cheek. His hair is long enough to cover his ears but not much longer. He doesn't do much with his hair, in fact he doesn't tend to it most of the time. The only time he grooms his hair is right after bathing, since he doesn't see the reason to bother with it after that. As a result, his extremely light blond hair always makes it look like he just woke up (and, sometimes, like he hasn't bathed in weeks).
What he's wearing depends on what he has available to him and what he's about to run off and do. He usually only wears normal clothes when sleeping, though there have been times when he's been seen in it. He's usually seen in some sort of armor, mostly because he feels more comfortable in it. The only thing he wears on a daily basis is a circlet made out of what appears to be stems with thorns on them, which is a symbol of his position as King of Thorns. He finds it somewhat amusing.
Overall personality:
He tries to be serious. Honestly, he does. From his sister's birth on he became serious, appointing himself her guardian. And it worked. He slowly became able to control his expression and eventually his voice. It almost seemed to cut him off from emotion. It became a habit for him to be stoic, and he remains that way, or at least most of the time. Aculli will sometimes let something slip, a bit of pride or amusement, just to reassure others.
After his sister became one of the best Thorn Warriors, he stopped worrying about her as much as he did before. Instead, he appointed himself the world's guardian. It's almost compulsive: if he sees someone in danger, he has to help them. He simply has to. If it was a choice between an arm and helping someone, most of the time he'd pick to help that person. He can be impulsive and rash while helping someone, which puts him in more danger than the other person was originally in.
His "shell", as his sister would teasingly call it, sometimes cracks, especially under stress, pressure or any feeling of regret or guilt. There are two ways he deals with that. First he lets his temper get the best of him and yells at whoever was making him feel horrible (which makes him feel more guilt in the end) and then goes to find something to drink. Sometimes one step comes before the other and sometimes he doesn't do one of those steps, but it's a typical reaction from him.
Likes:
-Quiet
-Fighting; he thinks it calms him, which it does in some odd way.
-Most things alcoholic
-His sister
Dislikes:
-The fact that he misses having to chase men away from his sister.
-Loud noises
-Not knowing things
Strengths:
-Fighting. He's skilled in combat, especially since most don't expect to see an elven man running at them with a shield and a spear.
Weaknesses:
-Knowing someone is in some sort of danger.
-Guilt, stress and regret. He can't deal with any of it.
Quirks:
-Instead of asking a question about something, especially something that someone has just said, he will just raise an eyebrow. He doesn't seem to understand that no one outside the Thorn Warriors knows what this means.
-Not understanding the fact that he is not a true king.
-Making sure others are fine before tending to himself.
Fears:
-Death, or more like losing others close to him. He didn't exactly know he had this fear until his sister died.
-Betrayal. He has no idea why, he just fears it.
Secrets:
-He blames himself for his sister's death. He believes that there was some way that he could have saved her, which there wasn't. He doesn't tell anyone that he blames himself, but he has a feeling that people know.
-Many people (especially Flurin and Bavol, but it's to be expected, knowing them) seem to have some thought that he's attracted many people and has a lot of experience. Truth is, he spent too much time making sure his sister didn't get the experience. He doesn't correct anyone when they make crude comments about him, since he'd rather get the inappropriate comments than the endless teasing and offers to fix it.
Mother:
Kydul Avalen
Father:
Ansraer Avalen
Siblings:
Jayel Avalen; sister; deceased.
Pets:
None
Other:
Sealros - If you caught him a good mood, he'd probably admit to missing her. If you caught him drunk you'd probably get a whole bunch from him, about how he thought she was stronger than he is in so many different ways and that he couldn't help himself from being charmed by her sly ways. She was a good friend to him and he won't forget that, nor does he think he will ever be able to repay her for it.
Feravel - Sealros' brother. Aculli's known the other elf for some time, and while they won't say they're close, they're there for each other if they need it.
Bavol - If Aculli got his way, Bavol would have been dead a long time ago. The Mixling thief just annoys him, from the way the other man likes to dramatically draw out anything important he says to his past with women.
Flurin - He liked the dwarf despite always stealing his alcohol. Flurin also got extra respect for being the only one who was able to control Bavol, other than Sealros (for rather obvious reasons) and her brother (likely because Bavol knew that Feravel would kill him). Aculli keeps saying that he has to go visit the dwarf at his house in Telr but never gets around to doing it.
Other Companions of Sealros - If he doesn't remember their names, likely he didn't care much for them.
Overall history:
His birth was rather uneventful. Born into a not-very-well-known-but-still-old family, Aculli is the first child of Kydul and Ansraer Avalen. He had a fine childhood; his parents gave him (almost) whatever he wanted, he learned, he watched his father play around with Rune Magic. He often complained of being lonely, since he never really wished to leave his home and was too shy to talk to anyone but his family, but he was happy.
When he turned fifty, he learned that his mother was pregnant. Months later his little sister was born, and at first he wanted to do nothing to do with her. He stayed out of her way for five years, and somehow she got the message and didn't try to interact with him. When she turned six, that changed. He had been reading and Jayel came up, plopped down right next to him, and looked at the book. After a moment they turned to look at the other, at nearly the same time, and it was two way sibling worship.
He became her guardian; she became his shadow. They would, more or less, follow each other everywhere. He would play with her (to the best of his abilities) and she would accompany him to his training lessons. As she grew, he had to watch himself more; it got to the point where one could read the other, and he didn't exactly like that. He liked having someone to go to, just not someone who would look at his face and tell what he was thinking. He closed himself off, and if she noticed she didn't say anything.
When she became interested in learning to fight, Aculli stepped up to teach her, first starting her with basic weapons. She, unlike him, didn't grasp it as quickly as he had when he had begun training, and he quickly had to learn to be patient with her. He began noticing improvement, and while she wasn't able to best him, he still felt proud. After five years of learning she stuck her sword in the ground, looked at him, and clearly stated she wanted to learn to fight with his weapons of choice. After several days of arguing, he gave in
He was 115 when they left Illden because of Jayel. She was restless, curious, and wanted to see the world. And her guardian had to follow. They went around, doing what they could for work and housing. A few months into their journey they found the Thorn Warriors, then led by a dwarf. The dwarf let them in after a test in their combat skills, one that both siblings passed.
The years went slow, or at least to Aculli. He continued to watch his sister, to make sure she was ok, to make sure no man was looking at her in a funny way. She would laugh and call him her mother. Their sibling banter never stopped. One day he was made second-in-charge to the Warriors, and when the dwarf fell in battle, he took over.
The beginning of his "reign" was quiet, almost too quiet for his liking, and then one day he stumbled upon Feravel. A fearsome elf he was, and Aculli offered him a change to join the Thorn Warriors, but he declined. Still, the two would call upon each other in times of need, and when Feravel sent Aculli a letter about how his sister found some Blightland creatures away from their corrupted land, he and his sister moved as fast as possible.
The rest is history. The rode to the Blightlands, and the battle that killed his Jayel. He blamed himself. If only he had been a bit more observant, he thought he could have saved her. A friend of Sealros, a Lore Mage, told him that it was her path to die in the lands up north. He took her body south and buried her, marking the general place of her grave on a map of his, then went back to help Sealros warn Ellar of the creatures.
After his role was over he went back to Jayel's grave, staying there for awhile to mourn. Then, knowing she would tell him to stop being a baby and make something out of his life, he left and hasn't stopped moving.
Hi, my chat account is Draco. c:
I am 15 and I've been role-playing for eh, four years now?
Even on the border, the smoke from the Blightlands was horrible. It got into his nose and mouth and lungs and choked him, making him violently cough in a way he hasn't done since he got some kind of illness as a young boy. The smoke got in his eyes, making them water and making it hard for him to see.
He knew Sealros was around... somewhere. And he knew that Bavol would be with her. It was a good pairing, he would admit. The archer would be guarded by someone who could lunge from the smallest shadow to startle almost any foe. He wished he could be guarding her; he didn't quite trust the Mixling thief. Unfortunately for that wish, he had to stay with Jayel, who had made it her personal mission to get the Fey woman to warm up to her. Ilenro didn't like any of them, but she owed them, and that was why she was here.
Nothing had come from the smoke in ten minutes. He figured that this was to be the only break they would get for awhile. He dropped to his knees, his spear falling from his hand and landing next to him. He'd placed himself in front of the women, taking most of the attacks. A mistake, he now realized, seeing as he didn't even have the energy to lift his arm and move the thorn circlet.
His sister noticed the crooked crown, though. Laughing she stumbled over to him, drove the point of her spear into the ground and used her now free hand to fix with the circlet. He gave her a small smile, something only she saw, and she beamed back. They both heard a gasp and turned to Ilerno, only to see the Fey woman struggle to keep breathing, a hand to her stomach. They could both see the blood.
Aculli jumped up to help his sister lay the Fey woman down, not being able to help her as it became apparent that she was going to die. The watched over her, and when she finally stilled, they looked at each other. Some form of silent communication went between him and both rushed to retrieve their weapon, and then both stood at ready; shield in front, spear to the side, feet a shoulder length apart and facing their bodies to the side. They stood... and they waited... and finally they heard something. Sometime too big to be a spider, and something that didn't have enough legs.
They began to look at each other when a corrupted bear jumped from the smoke.
Aculli jumped to put himself in its path, but Jayel was faster. She planted herself in front of the thing, holding it there for a moment, looking like she was doing ok. Then the bear's paw came from no where and hit her head. Somehow Aculli knew she was dead without even checking. Somehow he knew that the blow had been powerful enough to kill her. Knowing this, he still let out a roar to grab the bear's attention and drove his spear into its side. It turned to him, and then-
Then two arrows flew from the smoke, planting themselves in the bear's side. Two more followed shortly after, then a dwarf rushed at the creature, ducking under it and planting his ax in the corrupted animal's throat.
The dwarf only had a few seconds to jump from under the bear before it collapsed, slowly dying. Sealros and a few of her companions appeared, retrieving arrows and giving him concerned looks, but he noticed none of them. Once the bear fell he had let go of his spear (which was still planted in the bear's side) and quickly god rid of his shield. Then he fell next to his sister, looking at her dead body. Double checking that she was indeed dead. Triple checking, even. He whispered to her, telling her to wake up, that the bear was dead. Saying how he'd personally go find the hardest ruin to rob and getting her an ancient weapon from one if she woke up.
He almost didn't notice someone touching his shoulder. But he did, and he ripped his eyes from his sister for a moment to see the concerned eyes of Sealros. She was kneeling by him, just sitting, knowing what was happening to him. Giving him time to protest she slowly reached for Jayel's arm, getting rid of the shield. The spear followed and they were both placed next to the dead woman.
When Sealros put one of Jayel's hands in his and took the other one, it finally registered in his mind that she was dead. His darling little sister was dead. And for the first time in his adult life, he cried.
... this is totally a
